Eleven members of the Libyan National Army (LNA) were killed in fighting near Derna on . . .[restrict]Monday, according to spokeman for the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Colonel Ahmed Masmari. Other reports put the figure at ten.
The fighting, against Islamist forces which currently control Derna, took place at Ain Mara, the heavily guarded LNA checkpoint some 27 kilometres west of the town on the Beida road. According to Masmari, 25 other LNA soldiers were wounded.
The Islamist forces had lost even more men in the heave fighting, he claimed, putting the figure at some 30, with dozens more wounded. They has also lost significant amounts of equipment, he said.
The cause of the clashes is unknown and there are no further details. [/restrict]
