21 December 2014:
The manager of a downtown Tripoli branch of the Saraya Bank was wounded today and staff terrified . . .[restrict]when an armed gang forced their way into the building and started firing at random shortly. The incident, just off Shara Mizran, happened shortly after cash had been delivered to the branch from the Central Bank.
According to the chairman of the bank, the masked men managed to get away with LD 103,000. They reportedly threatened to kill the staff if they tried to follow them.
The manager is being flown to Turkey for treatment.
This is the third time that the bank has been robbed this year. The last time thieves stole LD 130,000. Tripoli has seen a series of bank robberies over the past year. Last month, thieves stole a million dinars from the Hay Al-Andalus branch of the Sahara Bank. [/restrict]
