Benghazi, 3 November 2014:
Saiqa Special Forces has rebuffed claims that its commander, Wanis Bukhamada, was wounded . . .[restrict]in the last two days of fighting in Benghazi, saying he is in perfect health.
Head of Saiqa Special Forces Investigations Unit Fadel Al-Hassi told Libya Herald that Bukhamada had not been wounded as has been claimed in reports circulating on social media. He said the Saiqa commander was currently directing his forces from the Special Forces camp in Buatni which was retaken during fighting with Ansar Al-Sharia last week.
Saiqa had to abandon the camp, its largest in Benghazi, when it was overwhelmed by the forces of the Benghazi Revolutionaries Shura Council (BRSC) at the end of July. From that point the pro-government unit was pushed back to Benina Airport and a nearby air defence camp where it was essentially besieged until army forces reentered central Benghazi in mid-October.
The Libyan National Army has also said that it yesterday arrested Ahmed Al-Jazwi the spokesman for 17 February Brigade. The military said it arrested him at his home in Tabalino district.
