“We have captured Kikla” claims Zintan

Tripoli, 11 October 2014:

Zintani forces claim to have captured the nearby Jebel Nafusa town of Kikla this morning, forcing supporters . . .[restrict]of Libya Dawn to flee.

According to a senior source in the Zintan forces, the fighting started last night between the two sides at Al-Gualish outside Kikla but Zintani forces were able to take the town this morning.

In what looks like a reprise of the 2011 revolution when Zintan captured Kikla from Qaddafi forces, the source claimed that the people of Kikla welcomed the Zintanis on their entry into the town.

He also claimed that Libya Dawn forces had quit the town hurriedly, leaving behind significant supplies of vehicle ands arms.

Gharian would be Zintan’s next target, he said, adding that aircraft could be heard this today flying over the pro-Libya Dawn town and bombing it. He said he not know to whom they belonged.

The Zintani claims have not been confirmed.

Kikla has since the revolution been seen as pro-Islamist and more recently, like Gharian, firmly pro-Libya Dawn.

Yesterday, there were claims by Libya Dawn that it had taken control of the Wadi Al-Hai area, west of Aziziya, and that supplies for Zintani forces could not longer get through. The Zintanis later claimed to have retaken Wad Al-Hai, but this too has not been confirmed.

At the same time, Adel Ghiryani, the spokesman for the Libyan Revolutionaries Operations Room, part of Libya Dawn, declared that Bu Sheiba and Ras Al-Efaa would be retaken from Zintani and Warshefana forces.

The LROR had fought fierce battles with the two who were now being persued, he claimed. [/restrict]
