Tripoli, 14 October 2014:
A diplomatic spat has developed in the Comoros Islands between Libya and Iran. The Indian Ocean . . .[restrict]islands’ government has given approval for both countries to build embassies on the same plot of land in the capital, Moroni.
Libya learned of Iran’s claim on the land when it went to register its own claim . It turned out that Iran had been awarded the same land in the early 1990s.
Both nations have posted signs on the property declaring it as the future sites of their respective embassies.
A meeting was to be held yesterday to try to resolve the differences, but neither Libya nor Iran’s representatives attended. [/restrict]
