Tripoli, 27 October 2014:
The Media & Cultural Authority has said that the Tripoli-based Libyan news agency LANA, with its . . .[restrict]website www.lana-news.ly it is no longer official.
“Some people occupied the agency in Tripoli by force and we have no control over them,” the head of authority, Omar Al-Guweri told the Libya Herald. They were pro-Libya Dawn, he added, and were publishing anti-government and anti-HoR reports.
A new LANA was now being set up, he said, with a new website – www.lananews.com – and it would be ready within two weeks. Meanwhile, he had appointed Mahmoud Milad Ferjani as a new managing director for the agency.
Several staff at LANA have refused to work or have quit the agency altogether in the past three of months, objecting to being ordered to take a pro-Libya Dawn line in their reporting. [/restrict]
