Tripoli, 6 October, 2014:
Heavy clashes were reported yesterday in Aziziya district yesterday between Washefana and Libya dawn forces. Warshefana military . . .[restrict]sources claim that, in a surprise attack, they and Zintani forces managed to advance about two kilometres into the part of the district controlled by Gharian, Janzour and Zawia militias and that they captured quantities of military equipment in the offensive.
According to the sources, there were also air sorties overhead but no strikes were made.
There has been no independent confirmation of the fighting and Zintani forces are supposed to be observing the ceasefire ordered by the House of Representatives following the UN-sponsored peace talks in Ghadames.
Aziziya district is at present split between Warshefana forces backed by Zintanis and militiamen from Gharian, Janzour and Zawia who are supporting Libya Dawn.
Today, the Warshefana sources claimed that Misratan forces had moved in from Zawia to near Bir Ghanem with the aim of counterattacking.
Last week, Misrata and Zintan exchanged prisoners in what was seen as a bid to build bridges between both sides. As a result, there was criticism of Misrata by others in the Libya Dawn alliance who accused it of carrying out the exchange without consulting them. [/restrict]
