Tripoli, 10 September 2014:
Despite rumours on social media that Turkish Airlines is looking to resume flights to . . .[restrict]Misrata in the near future, the airline today denied this.
“There is no new strict decision on or new date for resuming our Libya flights yet,” a spokesman for the airline told the Libya Herald. “We are following the developments and will take necessary action accordingly.”
Turkish Airlines suspended passenger and cargo flights in mid-July. The airline, the market leader in airfreight in Libya, also stopped accepting any cargo destined for Libya, indicating that flights were unlikely to restart in the near future.
In August it said that, although Misrata airport was “available” for flights, it was unable to operate flights to the airport “due to operational risk and insurance”. [/restrict]
