Benghazi House of Representatives (HoR) member Tariq Geroushi has said that as soon as Prime Minister Abdullah . . .[restrict]Al-Thinni’s government is approved he will bring up the issue of an official dismissal of Libya’s Grand Mufti, Sheikh Sadik Al-Ghariani.
Geroushi told local media yesterday morning that due to the serious nature of fatwas issued by Ghariani supporting the armed groups that wreaked havoc in Tripoli most HoR members are determined on the Mufti’s ouster.
Geroushi expressed that he believes Ghariani’s continued tenure in the position could only have a negative impact.
Members have previously told the Libya Herald that Ghariani’s dismissal has already been approved in principle and that the only reason for the delay was a lack of consensus on the future of the Dar Al Ifta which he heads. [/restrict]
