Tripoli, 4 August 2014:

Fresh clashes in Tripoli on Saturday resulted in more than 20 deaths, according to a statement released . . .[restrict]by the government early yesterday morning. Another 72 were wounded in the fighting between the heavily armed militias and taken to local hospitals.

Civilians were among those killed or injured on Saturday. This reporter spoke with one family who lost a family member – a man in his thirties – when his house was hit in the Hadba area. The women and children of the household had evacuated earlier in the week.

The government accused the militias of “indiscriminate shelling of civilian targets,” saying that, as a result, hundreds of families have been displaced from their homes.
