National youth football team gives heart to Libya by defeating Ivory Coast

Tripoli, 16 August 2014:

There is still occasional good news for Libya.

The national youth football team yesterday defeated Ivory Coast 2-1 in the . . .[restrict]first leg match of the third-round qualifier for the African Nations Under 20s Championship, to be held in Senegal in 2015 .

The game was played at an empty Al-Menzah stadium in Tunis because of concerns about security in Tripoli.

Rwaid Bin Hamed and Mustafa El-Lafi scored the two goals for the Libyan team.

The Ivorians had arrived in Tunis in confident mood having beaten South Africa 1-0 in a friendly match last week in Abidjan.

Libya easily won its previous four qualifier matches against Tunisia and Chad, beating the former 4 – 2 on aggregate and the latter 4 – 0.

The second leg match will be at the end of August in Abidjan.

Other matches today in the third round of the Under 20s Champi0nship are Cameroon vs South Africa, Nigeria vs Lesotho and Malawi vs Zambia.

Tomorrow Ghana plays Gabon, Congo plays Egypt and Mali plays Togo. [/restrict]
