Libyan youth national team narrowly misses 2015 African Youth Championship

Tripoli, 31 August 2014:

The Libyan national youth football team . . .[restrict]was defeated yesterday by the Ivory Coast, upending their chance to play in the Orange African Youth Championship, to be held in Senegal in 2015.

The Ivory Coast team came from behind to defeat Libya 3-1 in the second match of the third-round qualifiers.  The match was held in the Stade Robert Champroux in Abidjan, Ivory Coast.

Libya started well, with Ali Al-Moatasem scoring a goal at the thirty-minute mark. The Ivory Coast team tied the score just before the recess. They scored again at 75 minutes and 78 minutes for the win.

Though Libya won the first leg match of this pairing, 2-1, yesterday’s win gave the Ivory Coast a 4-3 aggregate score, guaranteeing their advance to the 2015 championships in Senegal.  Libya, unfortunately, is out. [/restrict]
