Kufra, 20 August 2014:
Attempts by representatives from Misrata, Gharyan, Zliten and Emsalata to persuade Sebha to join them in . . .[restrict]rejecting the House of Representatives and support the Misratan-Led “Libya’s Dawn” operation have resulted in an attack on Sebha Municipal Council.
According to an official from the council, the talks went smoothly, with the council sympathetic to the requests. However, yesterday evening an armed group opposed to the Dawn operation stormed the council offices, causing panic among employees.
“Armed men said to be against the Dawn operation stormed the building and fired in the air, preventing officials in the municipality from reading a join-statement on Operation Dawn,” the official told the Libya Herald.
The official, who asked not to be named, claimed that the attackers were members of the Awlad Sulaiman tribe which has been involved in numerous conflicts with other communities in Sebha over the past two years.
“The group who attacked the municipal council are Awlad Suleiman tribesmen who are aganist the Dawn operation. But they’ll have no effect,” he predicted.
The Awlad Suleiman have been involved in a number of clashes with Misrata’s Third Force sent in January, along with Zintanis, to end fighting between the tribe and the Tebus and restore order in the town.
Both the Awlad Suleiman and the Tebus are now on the same side against Operation Dawn. [/restrict]
