Although the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) officially temporarily suspended its operations . . .[restrict]in Libya following the 4 June murder of one of its international staff members, the organisation has said that it is indeed still active in the country.
According to ICRC spokesman Salah Uddin, the organisation, which has had a permanent presence in Libya since 2011, is continuing to respond to emergencies and life-saving activities through the Libyan Red Crescent.
“Since June, we have provided medical supplies to hospitals and medical facilities in Tripoli, Zawia, Matiga, Arada and Misrata, allowing for better treatment of trauma patients and those wounded in battle,” Uddin said.
Furthermore, while the ICRC did temporarily relocate its international staff to Tunis on 15 July, it has kept its offices in Benghazi, Sebha, Misrata and Tripoli open with 130 national staff. [/restrict]
