Tripoli, 15 July 2014:
The European Union has called . . .[restrict]for a end to hostilities in Tripoli. The country’s political divisions can only be addressed through renewed dialogue and mediation, it said.
“We are gravely concerned by the recent violent clashes in Tripoli. We urge all sides to cease violence immediately and engage in meaningful dialogue,” the statement from Brussels read.
“The recent parliamentary elections and the foreseen establishment of the of the House of Representatives offer a window of opportunity to put the transition process back on track.
“We call for the convening of the new Council of Representatives as soon as possible. The EU trusts that the new parliament will be in a position to embody the national consensus and play its role in forming a Government with wide political support,” it said.
The EU’s statement said that it remained committed to a democratic, stable and prosperous Libya.
