Tripoli, 22 July 2014:
The First Deputy President of Congress Ezzeddin Al-Awami has written to the General National Congress (GNC) . . .[restrict]President Nuri Abu Sahmain saying that the handover to the newly-elected House of Representatives has to be speeded up.
In a letter leaked on the internet, Awami said that after consultations with a number of members of the new House of Representatives, it had become clear to him that, for the good of the country, the GNC had to hand over power as soon as possible.
He suggested it happen in Benghazi on Thursday. The city’s Security Directorate had prepared all arrangements to safely host the House of Representatives’ sessions he said.
Congress plans to hold an emergency session today morning to discuss the results. It remains to be seen if it agrees to a rapid handover. If it makes no decision or sets a date later in the year, it will risk being unceremoniously and fairly instantly displaced by the new House. [/restrict]
