Benghazi, 28 June 2014:
Saiqa Special forces say they have freed a man who . . .[restrict]had been kidnapped from an appartment in Benghazi’s Salmani district, apprehending those holding him during the rescue.
Head of Saiqa Special Forces Investigations Unit Fadel Al-Hassi told the Libya Herald that Saiqa had freed the man, whom he identified as Hamza Khfaifi, yesterday. He said Khfaifi was now in a critical condition at a Benghazi hospital following his ordeal but would not disclose how he came to be wounded or who had been holding him.
Hassi said his department had been contacted in relation to 43 kidnappings in greater Benghazi since May. He said abductees included members of the security forces and military, civilians, Libyans and foreign nationals.
He said security officials were doing all within their power to ascertain the whereabouts of those who had been abducted but that Saiqa and its partners faced an uphill struggle given the city’s security situation.
