Tripoli, 6 June 6, 2014:
Hatif Libya, a subsidiary of the Libyan Company for Posts, Communications and Information Technology . . .[restrict](PCIT), has completed the installation of a new fibre optic cable in Awjila.
The cable will enable the new passport department offices in the town to link up with the passport offices in Benghazi and Tripoli and so start issuing new electronic passports to Awjila residents.
The Libyan government started issuing the new passports early last year, following the completion of the National Identity Number system.
Computerisation of the passport system has given the government the ability to monitor Libya’s border points as well register details of foreigners arriving in Libya. [/restrict]
