Tripoli, 10 June 2014:

A leading member of Ansar Al-Sharia has been killed in Derna. The body of Al-Mahdi Saad Abu . . .[restrict]Al-Abyad was found on Monday in an area eight kilometres south of the town and taken to Harish Hospital. This comes after a weekend of violence in Derrna, with Ansar Al-Sharia and Abu Sleem Martyrs Brigade targeting one another.

News of Abyah’s death came amid conflicting reports about a death squad targeting particular individuals, and also came against the backdrop of the attempted bombing of the home of Saeed Al-Shaari, a commander in the Abu Sleem Martyrs Brigade.

A Derna source who wished to remain anonymous maintained that, prior to his death, Al-Abyad had targeted the house of Rafallah Hassan Israfeel Al-Shalooy with an improvised explosive device, causing some damage to the house and properties near it on Monday evening.
