Tripoli, 12 May 2014:
The president of the Court of Appeals in Derna was seriously . . .[restrict]wounded in an assassination attempt today when a gunman shot him in the Bab Shiha district.
Abdul-Aziz Mustafa Al-Trabulsi had just left the Abdullah Bin Masoud Mosque after Maghreb payers when the gunman attacked, according to a local council official. Shot in the stomach and legs, he was rushed to the Harish hospital where doctors removed the bullets. He is now in intensive care but his condition is described as stable.
This is the second assault on Trabulsi, who has been prominent in demanding better security for the judiciary. Just over a year ago, thieves stole his car after forcing him to stop and get out.
Judges have been a target for militant Islamists in Derna intent on enforcing Sharia law. Last June, a senior judge was gunned down outside his Derna courthouse in a drive-by shooting. [/restrict]
