Tripoli, 6 April 2014:
The three decomposed bodies found near Ghat by border patrol guards could be the remains of Libyan . . .[restrict]soldiers kidnapped over a year ago, according to a local military commander.
“We were on a routine patrol when we found two decomposed bodies, in the open, and a bag containing human remains,” the commander of Brigade No. 411, Mustafa Ikenduish, told the Libya Herald.
“I suspect the bodies are those of army soldiers who disappeared in that area over a year ago,” he said. “Four soldiers vanished and, at the time, abduction was suspected.”
The remains were found on Friday near Al-Owynat, some 120 kilometres north of Ghat.
“We do find bodies of illegal migrants who have died trying to cross the desert every now and then, but these are not normally decomposed, because they are usually normally found quite quickly after death,” Ikenduish said.
The border guards had notified the Ghat police department of the incident, which had launched an investigation, he added. [/restrict]
