Tripoli, 4 April 2014:
Two people, including the son of the head of the local council, were killed yesterday . . .[restrict]during armed clashes in Kikla, some 150 km outside Tripoli.
The fighting was apparently between two groups, one of which was led by the council head’s son. This group had been a Tripoli-based brigade which had moved out in the wake of Law No 27, aimed at ridding the capital of armed groups.
Back in Kikla, the brigade apparently turned a local school into its headquarters and set up checkpoints around the town.
Fighting was sparked by the killing of a local farmer and the injuring of his brother, local residents said.
In what appears to have been a retaliation, family members of the victims reportedly attacked the school, killing the group’s commander and arresting ten members of the brigade. The family have also apparently taken over the school. [/restrict]
