Tripoli, 13 March 2014:
Tripoli International Airport is temporarily closed due to bad weather.
No flights are landing or taking off from the . . .[restrict]airport, and arrivals are apparently being redirected to Tripoli’s Mitiga Airport and Misrata Airport.
A senior airport source told the Libya Herald that the airport does not have a functioning advanced ‘instrument landing system’. This, he said, results in problems when bad weather leads to poor visibility.
In the current political climate, the rumour mill has been in overdrive and the airport closure has become caught up in this. However, according to airport sources, reports circulating on social media networks that there are political reasons for the closure are not true. [/restrict]
