Tripoli, 7 February 2014:
Three more members of the General National Congress (GNC) have resigned in response to today’s movement . . .[restrict]against the extension of Congress’s mandate.
Two independent congressmen from Zintan, Abdusalam Nassiyah and Mohamed Bitru, and independent Warshefana representative, Juma Al-Sayah resigned today.
Sayah announced his resignation on Libya Awalan TV today, citing the poor performance of the GNC as the reason. He apologised to the Libyan people for the period that he worked as a congressman during which time, he said, he had failed to serve them adequately.
There have been no such public announcements by Nassiyah and Bitru, although the resignations have been widely reported in local media.
Attempts this evening to contact the three Congress members were unsuccessful.
These three are the latest GNC members to resign, after National Forces Alliance (NFA) members Ibrahim Al-Gharyani (Benghazi) and Fariha Al-Barkawi (Derna) resigned last week.
Commenting, GNC spokesman Omar Hemidan said, that other those of Gharyani and Barkawi, no other resignations had been officially submitted. [/restrict]
