Tripoli, 31 January 2014:
Plans are underway to raise awareness for elections to the 60-member constitution-drafting Committee that . . .[restrict]will be held on Thursday, 20 February.
The High National Election Commission (HNEC) is planning an advertising campaign on television and radio as well as in newspapers and a mass leaflet distribution as just some of the measures to make the public fully aware of the poll and its importance.
HNEC’s Public Awareness and Outreach Director, Hussam Zagaar, told the Libya Herald that his office would be using “every means available” to raise public awareness.
He said that HNEC was in the process of setting up its campaign offices and would be commissioning two national television and radio adverts along with local media buys, newspaper adverts and the distribution of flyers and SMS messages.
He said that there would be “a big push” on publicity. The plans would be put into action following the green light from the head of the committee, Nuri Elabbar, on Sunday.
The EU Delegation in Libya has meanwhile commended the efforts of HNEC for its preparations for elections saying they will “constitute a historic milestone in Libya’s transition process”.
