Tripoli, 6 January 2014:

The head of Zawia Security Directorate was held by kidnappers in Tripoli for two hours yesterday . . .[restrict]before being released.

Lieutenant Ali Al-Lafi was abducted yesterday outside the Prime Minister’s office while on his way to give a press conference with the Minister of Interior. He was then taken to Tajoura where he was held by unknown assailants.

Lafi was released after an intervention by the First Deputy Prime Minister and acting Interior Minister, Sadiq Abdelkarim, who has since said that there would be a full investigation into the incident. There has been no indication as to why Lafi was kidnapped.
