Tripoli, 5 January 2014:
The British Embassy in Tripoli has issued a statement expressing deep sadness at the killing of . . .[restrict]British and New Zealand citizens Mark De Salis and Lynn Howie on a beach near Sabratha on Thursday.
The embassy has said that consular officers in Libya and the United Kingdom were providing their full support to the victims’ families and added that the bereaved had declined to make a statement at this point in time.
The British embassy, which looks after New Zealand affairs in Libya, said it was working closely with the local authorities as they investigated the shootings but called on the Libyan government to conduct a thorough investigation into the incident. It urged the government to do everything in its power to prosecute the perpetrators of the crime and build a solid foundation for the rule of law. [/restrict]
