Tripoli, 13 January 2014:
An abandoned dinghy of the type often used by migrants trying to get to Europe . . .[restrict]was discovered yesterday off the coast of Derna.
The dinghy’s engine was apparently still running and personal items, including women and children’s clothes were found in the boat. There was nobody on board and no bodies have yet been discovered.
Earlier this year, the Tripoli Coastguard found a similar abandoned vessel floating on the sea, with money, identity documents and mobile phones left in the boat. The fate of those on board was never established but the abandoned possessions led the coastguard to suspect those on board had died. [/restrict]
