By Libya Herald staff.

Tripoli, 7 December 2013:

Free access to higher education for all refugees in Libya has resumed, the Ministry of . . .[restrict]Higher Education has told the UNHCR.

Any refugee is now able to register for university courses, for which the Libyan government will pay the fees, said the ministry.

The chief of the UNHCR mission to Libya, Emmanuel Gignac, told the Libya Herald: “We are very happy about this. Higher education was previously available only to Syrian refugees. Now it has been opened to refugees regardless of their origin.”

The former regime introduced the scheme in 2008, said Gignac, but during and after the revolution, the arrangement, though not officially suspended, had largely broken down. [/restrict]
