Another member of the armed forces has been killed in Benghazi. Wing-Commander Mohamed Faraj Al-Zwai, 39, . . .[restrict]was shot dead today by unknown gunmen in the city’s Al-Salam district. He was on his way to perform Friday prayers.
Confirming the killing, the spokesman for Benghazi Joint Security Room, Ibrahim Shara, said that an unidentified body, dressed in military uniform, was also found this afternoon in Hawari district, near the cement factory. He too had been shot.
Shara also confirmed that very early this morning, Ahmed Mumin Al-Shaikhi, a lieutenant-colonel with the 1st Marines Brigade, was kidnapped in front of his house. A black jeep with tinted windows is said to have sped off with him inside.
At much the same time, army guards at a checkpoint in Leithi district were attacked by unknown gunmen. The army responded with fire, but the attackers escaped. No one was injured.
Meanwhile, according to Shara, an Egyptian man was found this morning on board an Egyptian bus parked in the Buatni district. He also had been shot. He was taken to Benghazi Medical Centre (BMC) but is described as being in a poor condition. The reason for his attack is unknown.
Also taken to BMC was a Palestinian man, found shot in the Kuwaifiya area. He is said to be being held under armed guard at the hospital. [/restrict]
