Tripoli, 5 November 2013:
Reports that a Congresswoman was threatened over the proposed change to the scope of the . . .[restrict]Libyan Revolutionaries’ Operations Room (LROR) have been denied.
“There was no threat. This was just a rumour,” Congresswoman Zeinab Haroun Al-Targi told the Libya Herald this evening. “What happened was a heated debate between Misrata Congressman Sallahiddeen Omar Beshr Badi and Baida Congresswoman Najah Salouh Abdussalam Abdul Nabi.”
The debate followed the General National Congress (GNC)’s decision to withdraw the LROR’s assignment to secure Tripoli. Other LROR operations will continue as normal.
Targi said that Badi apologised to Nabi at the end of the debate, which took place at last night’s GNC sitting. The session, Targi pointed out, was televised.
Reports that members of the LROR staged an armed protest outside the GNC to intimidate Congress members has also been publicly denied. “This is pure fabrication and a lie,” the LROR told Libyan news agency LANA, adding that its role was to secure the country and protect Libyans. [/restrict]
