Tripoli, 30 November 2013:

The Grand Mufti, Sheikh Sadik Al-Ghariani, has condemned Wednesday’s attack on a historic shrine in Tajoura.

He questioned the . . .[restrict]motive behind the attack, saying that there had been no reports of any acts of idolatry at the shrine. “We have never heard of anyone who went there to supplicate or offer prayer towards the tomb,” Ghariani said.

He said that blame for the attack most likely lay with those who were determined to keep Libya in a state of instability. He also lashed out at the government, which he likened to a Council of Elders which tried to resolve problems whilst having no power or authority.

The 450-year old Murad Agha Ottoman shrine was destroyed in an early morning blast which also slightly damaged the Grand Mosque beside it. [/restrict]
