Tripoli, 29 November 2013:
A dozen Libyans injured during the Gharghour protests in Tripoli on 15 November are now in Italy receiving treatment.
The patients are being treating at the San Camillo Forlanini Hospital in Rome, which has a special section with facilities including Halal food and Libyan television channels reserved for Libyans.
The section was set up as part of an Italian government humanitarian programme to treat wounded revolutionaries, agreed in January 2012. The Italian General Consulate in Tripoli was swift to respond to the events in Gharghour, which left 47 people dead and nearly 500 wounded, by offering spare beds in the hospital’s Libyan wing to those needing treatment abroad.
