Tripoli, 3 September 2013:
In the face of a catastrophic shutdown of the country’s oil production, the GNC has cancelled its planned . . .[restrict]agenda today, to set up a Crisis Committee to deal with the current situation.
The newly-formed committee will try to negotiate with protestors who are staging armed strikes at oil fields and export terminals across the country. The Energy Committee said that protestors had not responded to its attempts to negotiate, forcing it to hand the matter back to the GNC as a whole.
The Energy Committee said yesterday that the strikes had brought production and exports to a virtual standstill.
It is understood that the only two export terminals running today are Mellitah and Brega. [/restrict]
