The Ministry of Health has announced that the Accident & Emergency department at Tripoli Central . . .[restrict]Hospital is functioning again. The announcement, made on Thursday, said that staff had resumed work the same day.
They walked out the previous Thursday after a doctor working in the unit was assaulted, although they continued to work in other departments. They said they would not return unless the authorities ensured there was adequate security.
Last Sunday the Ministry issued a warning to staff at the A&E unit to return to work or face legal action.
It is not yet known if this had the desired effect, whether new staff have been brought in or whether the hospital authorities have met staff demands and improved security. [/restrict]
