Tripoli, 15 August 2013:
Speaking at Wednesday’s press conference, Prime Minister Ali Zaidan revealed that there has at last been . . .[restrict]some progress in the investigation of some of the crimes and terror activities that has been experienced by Libya.
Zeidan said that there has been some progress in the investigations in the crimes and terror acts that have taken place in Benghazi and other cities. Investigations have gathered proof and have made some arrests and we will provide results to the public soon.
I have been speaking to the Minister of Interior over the last few days and I have spoken to him today, Zeidan revealed. However, the Minister of Interior has requested that I delay any public announcements for a little while longer.
I call on the public’s patience as investigations take time, Zeidan concluded.
Zeidan did not specify which particular criminal or terror activity. He did not intimate how far back the activities he was referring to occurred. Indeed he did not even reveal if they were activities during or before he took up office.
If as the Prime Minister has promised arrests and proof of criminal and terror activities has led to some results, it will be the first case of the new post February 17th new Libya where the authorities have actually directed charges at anyone.
This will come as a relief to the majority of the Libyan public who have grown frustrated with their authorities for failing to impose the rule of law. [/restrict]
