Tripoli, 18 August 2013:
The Libyan government has denied allegations that it backs the Egyptian military and government in the . . .[restrict]current crisis there.
In a statement on its official website, it said that what has been happening in Egypt was an Egyptian internal affair and that Libya does not interfere in other countries’ affairs. Libya, the statement said said, would always stand by the Egyptian people.
The comments were, however, condemned by Benghazi Congresswoman Houda Abdulatif Al-Banani, a member of the Brotherhood-linked Justice and Construction Party.
“I believe that the statement was weak and should be stronger than that. Everyone had condemned the events,” she told the Libya Herald.
It was not only too little, it was too late , she said. However, she was willing to pardon the offence because Libya was focussed on its own internal security. [/restrict]
