Tripoli, 19 July 2013:
Asked by the media at Sunday’s press conference regarding reports of GNC interference in the government’s affairs, Prime Minister Ali Zeidan did not categorically deny the accusation.
The question was regarding the over interference by GNC committees and their members in the specific executive work of the government.
Zeidan said that “we are all new to parliamentary and government work and there are misunderstandings at time”.
He said that the GNC specialized committees had a supervisory role over the government. They write reports regarding their area and presented to the GNC leadership. These reports can be discussed internally or in open session at the GNC, Zeidan explained.
“We are still training in political life”, Zeidan stressed, “and therefore there should be flexibility and cooperation in dealings between the government and the GNC”.
“It is not as bad as is reported”, concluded Zeidan. [/restrict]
