Tripoli, 17 June 2013:
Tunisia says it has arrested a Libyan “terrorist” who entered the country and is connected to . . .[restrict]militants linked to Al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb (AQIM) who have been involved in attacks on the Tunisian military in the Chambi mountain area in western Tunisia.
In a statement issued yesterday, the Tunisian Ministry of Interior said that “the competent units managed, after a security intelligence operation in south of Tunisia, to arrest a Libyan terrorist who entered Tunisian territory, as well as some terrorist elements from neighboring countries.”
The brief statement did not give details about the identity of the Libyan nor where he was captured.
The Tunisian authorities announced earlier that the Jebel Chambi had been “swept of terrorists” after a military operation lasting over a month. In the sweep, three Tunisian soldiers were killed, a number of others injured and over three dozen suspected terrorists arrested.
