Tripoli, 25 May 2013:
Tensions between Gharian and Zintan over the killing of two Ghariani brothers in Tripoli this week, allegedly by . . .[restrict]a Zintani, have calmed following the delivery of the man to intermediaries.
The head of Gharian Local Council has been reported as confirming that the suspect in the case has been handed over to a reconciliation committee organised by Sabratha. It consists of the head of Sabratha Local Council, members of the Jebel Nafusa Elders Council, members of the Western Region Elders Council and members of Zintan Local Council.
Gharian had threatened to take the law into its own hands and attack Zintan if the suspect were not handed over.
Visitors to the towns today described the atmosphere in both places as seemingly calm and unremarkable.
Gharian Council leader added that members of the Council and a number of residents would travel to Sabratha later to further pursue the matter. [/restrict]
