Five English language teaching schools in the Jebel Nafousa are now offering low-cost tuition to . . .[restrict]up to 12,000 students a year, thanks to a grant of almost LD 100,000 from the British government.
Four of the schools in Rufban, Yefren, Zintan and Ghariyan (where there are two), were formally opened today during a whistle-stop mountain tour by British Ambassador Michael Aron, accompanied at each ceremony by local GNC and council representatives.
The British Council, though sponsoring the teaching and providing software that links into their own courses, is not directly responsible for the teaching staff, Aron told the Libya Herald.
“The LD 20,000 given to each of the schools has been used to buy equipment and computers” he explained, “ The local councils have given the buildings. This allows for the English language schools to charge low fees for their classes. Using the software and computers, pupils will be able to follow British Council courses, though they will still have to go to Tripoli if they wish to sit a formal exam”. [/restrict]
