Speaking at Sunday’s Prime Ministerial press conference, the Minister of Education Ali Abed said that his . . .[restrict]Ministry was working on the review of old curriculums and that many errors in books referring to the old regime were noted and being corrected.
Abed also revealed that the government was introducing “electronic teaching” and that it hoped to eventually distribute computers, laptops or ipads.
The Minister also revealed that 1,024 schools need maintenance, but that the allocated budget only allowed for the maintenance of 500. Ten schools were destroyed during the Revolution and needed rebuilding, he explained.
The work would begin over the summer holidays and the Ministry has been authorized to award direct contracts as soon as possible, the Minister announced.
The Minister of Education strongly refuted the rumour that he had formed a committee to close down Amazigh schools.
With regards to outstanding wages for contracted teachers, the Minister assured that the 43,000 contracts, although wrongly awarded and beyond the budget, would be honoured as soon as possible. The government had set aside LD 300 m to meet these until the end of 2013, he explained. [/restrict]
