Benghazi, May 11 2013:
A new advisory body focusing on economic issues in Benghazi was launched at an event today. The Benghazi . . .[restrict]Economic Council (BEC) aims to draw together efforts among the various institutions specialising in economic activity in the city, promote its economic growth and contribute to the economic plans and policies in the country as a whole.
The BEC has been in the planning for some time. In February, local businessmen and political leaders formally agreed to set up the organisation.
Today saw those attending the launch being told about the BEC’s composition, its organisational structure and it areas of activity. A steering committee was elected which will run the council until a board of directors is formed.
The launch ceremony was attended by Benghazi GNC member Mohamed Amari, Deputy Minister of Local Government Affairs Saleh Saeed and deputy head of Benghazi Local Council Saad Saaiti. Also there were the head of the Prime Minister’s Office in the Eastern Region, the Ministry of Economy region branch manager and the consuls of Turkey, Palestine and Morocco. [/restrict]
