Cairo, 28 April 2013:
The Egyptian Attorney General today ordered the release of Qaddafi’s top aid and cousin, Ahmed Qaddaf Al-Dam after . . .[restrict]deciding to drop corruption charges.
However, he will remain in jail despite the efforts of his Egyptian lawyers because he still faces charges of possessing illegal weapons, attempting to murder a police officer and resisting arrest when forces moved to detain him in Cairo in March.
Qaddafi Al-Dam denies the accusations saying that he did not attempt to kill anyone who arrested him nor did he own the weapons found in his home.
In the meantime, he is trying to avoid extradition to Libya by claiming that he is, in fact, an Egyptian citizen by virtue of having been born there.
