Exhibitors at the Rebuild Libya exhibition in Benghazi

Benghazi, 29 April 2013:

The Second “International Exhibition for Rebuild Libya” opened in Benghazi yesterday with a significant showing by . . .[restrict]foreign companies, particularly from Turkey and Italy.

“The exhibition is being attended by about 25 to 30 Italian companies and 40 Turkish companies, in addition to others from a number of Arab and foreign countries”, said Mohammed Al-Omari, from the Privatization and Investment Board, Eastern Region, which has helped coordinate the event.

The three-day show, focusing on construction equipment and services and which ends on 1 May, has been organised by El Dawlia IEC and sponsored by Benghazi Local Council. It is seen as a major boost to the city’s hopes of becoming Libya’s commercial capital.

Local businesses said that it would allow them to benefit from foreign expertise and technology as well as help them build up ties with foreign companies. The result, they said, would be seen in new construction developments to meet Libya’s growing population.

“The objective of the second exhibition for the reconstruction of Libya is communication between local and international companies and to bring their capabilities for the reconstruction of Libya to the attention of government agencies and public bodies” said Omari.

At the opening ceremony, held in a temporary structure opposite the Tibesti hotel, saw a number of government officials present including the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Housing and the Director of the Office of the Prime Minister in the Eastern Region as well as members Benghazi Local Council, diplomats and businessmen.
