Smuggler vehicle accident leaves four dead near Tunisian border town of Ben Guerdane

Tunis, 11 March 2013:

Two . . .[restrict]Libyans and two Tunisians were killed and eight others wounded in a raod accident last night on the desert area of Sidi Touei, near the Tunisian border town of Ben Guerdane. According to Tunisian news agency TAP,  two trucks hit a Tunisian military patrol car.  The trucks were said to be involved in smuggling.

Among the dead was a Tunisian military sergeant officer from the border town of Dhehiba in the district of Tataouine, according to Tunisian TV Al Watania 1.

A spokesman from the Tunisian Ministry of Defense, Mokhtar Ben Nasr, confirmed the death of  the military officer and three smugglers: one Tunisian and two Libyans. Five other smugglers and three military patrol officers have varying injuries, he added.

An employee in Ben Guerdane hospital stated to the Libya Herald that the hospital admitted two of the injured while two more were transferred to a Zarzis clinic and another to Sfax hospital. [/restrict]
