Tripoli, 13 March 2013:
Hassan Al-Amin, one of the independent Congress members for Misrata, has resigned his seat. He says that he . . .[restrict]has received death threats in recent days and felt compelled to quit as a result.
Prominent and much admired for his integrity and his stand against the Qaddafi regime when in exile in the UK, he has spoken out recently against armed gangs and militias in the country, and in Misrata as well.
One the Almostakbal website, which he founded while in exile in London, he says that he will in future “continue to defend the issues of truth and goodness, justice and human rights in my country from outside Congress”.
The only other person so far to have resigned from Congress is Ali Zeidan, but he quit to become prime minister.
