Tripoli, 30 December:
The Administrative Chamber of the Supreme Court has rejected final appeals by two people disbarred by the Integrity Commission . . .[restrict]from taking their seats as members of the General National Congress.
According to the Libyan news agency LANA, both Abd Rabbah Yousef Bu Breg Mikael, elected an independent congressmen for Beida, and Mohamed Ibrahim Makhi Abdulqader, elected in Ghat, have failed in their bids to have the rulings overturned.
Mikael and Abdulqader were disbarred in August, as was the other member for Ghat, Abdulqader Sidi Omar Sidi Eshaikh El-Hash, along with four others elected to Congress. They were Abdulhamid Ali Al-Khanjari, the independent member for Batin Al-Jabal, Annifishi Abdussalam Abdussalam, an independent member for Tarhouna, and two NFA congresswomen — Salma Mohamed Emhemed Ekhail from Zliten, and Mariam Ali Ahmed Farda from Tripoli’s Abu Sleem/Ain Zara district.
An eighth member of Congress, Salem Al-Ahmar Al-Hadi Ali, from Bani Walid, was later disbarred.
Both Mikael and Abdulqader appealed to the courts over the decision as did El-Hash, Khanjari and Farda. The two lost their cases but then appealed to the Supreme Court.
Integrity Commission investigations have hit Ghat harder than anywhere else in the country.
Ten days ago, the Intergrity Commission disbarred Ghat local council leader Nasr Yousif Mohamed Gheryani, council secretary Abdulqadir Mohamed Abdurrasul, council financial controller Khair Saleh Khair Bika as well Issa Ibrahim Abdo Ibrahim, commander of the border guards at Ghat, and Almadani Abdullah Almurtada, head of Ghat’s Security Directorate.
