A committee at the General National Council (GNC) today recommended that members of the judiciary who worked in the . . .[restrict]Qaddafi-era “special courts” and “cleansing committees” should not take part in the trials of senior figures from the previous regime.
The GNC’s Justice and Judicial Affairs Committee met this morning in the presence of the head of the Tripoli Judicial Institutes Inspection Department, and discussed the fact that the judges presiding in some of the trials of former regime officials had taken part in the “special courts” of the Qaddafi era.
At the end of the meeting, the committee said it was important to exclude these figures from the current trials to ensure the integrity and transparency of the process.
The decision came on the same day as the GNC passed a “political isolation law” that will exclude senior officials from Qaddafi’s rule from government posts.
