Tripoli, 25 December:
Former NTC head Mustafa Abdul Jalil accussed a group of ‘’Libyan Islamists’’ of being responsible for the . . .[restrict]death of General Abdulfatah Younis, according to a report by Aljazera.net.
Furthermore, Abdul Jalil went on to say that he saw ”no difference in the case of the assassination of Younis to the attack on the American Consulate in Benghazi’’.
Abdul Jalil confirmed that the whole issue was ‘’shrouded somewhat in mystery’’ but went on to declare that ‘’the group does not want stability for Libya, and wants to rule the country with exaggeration and extremism’’, and that this group is ‘’behind the killing of Younis and the US Ambassador Chris Stevens and the security breaches that are occurring now’’.
Abdul Jalil went on to confirm where he personally stood politically, yet at the same time distinguishing himself from extremists who use force to impose their views by stressing that ‘’we are all supporters for sharia and we are all Salafists’’ meaning we are all supporters of the imposition of Sharia law.
Abdul Jalil went on advise that the group should be engaged through “dialogue first, and if it is not feasible with other means”. He went on to conclude that Libya “will not be safe with the existence of this culture.”
Mustafa Abdul Jalil was speaking on the back of having been accused of having a hand in the Abdul Fatah Younis assassination as well as facing other accusations by a military court of abuse of power and of threatening the unity of Libya.
The case was postponed to next year and then it was decided that the military court did not have the authority to put a civilian on trial.
